At Hollaback!, a lot of people ask us “how do I compliment someone without talking about their body or their smile?” It’s a fair question (though we’re channeling Tatyana Fazlalizadeh’s work and starting with, “stop telling women to smile”) – a lot of us are taught that compliments and signs of affection, particularly towards women, are about appraising their looks. It’s a culture that over-values physical appearance and undervalues the amazing, everyday work we all do to build community with one another.
When you pledge $14 to Hollaback! during the week of February 7th-14th, we’ll send you or your valentine a personalized e-card, created by Kendall, on the morning of Valentine’s Day. Not only are you showing the loved ones in your life that you value their activism, their courage, and their community-building, you’re also supporting Hollaback!’s work to make public spaces equal for everyone.
To send a valentine, pledge $14 to Hollaback! and include the email address of your radical valentine in the dedication box. We’ll do the rest. You can even choose which valentine you’d like to send by including the title of the card below.
