Street Harassment: I’ve been harassed on…

I’ve been harassed on the street more times than I can remember, and usually I just ignore it and try to move on, even though I go into fight or flight mode. But this one time, I was walking at night to a restaurant after class, and a man stopped me to say, “you look like you want to be raped”. I turned around to face him and tell him off, but when I tried, I found that I could not make a sound. I opened my mouth and nothing came out. Luckily I was right outside the restaurant, so I ran inside and met my boyfriend who consoled me while I cried for about an hour. I didn’t regain the ability to speak for roughly 30 minutes. I tried and tried, but had zero voice. This is part of why people asking “did you scream? did you say no?” makes no sense. Sometimes you go into shock and cannot say anything no matter how hard you try.
