Public Harassment: I was on the subway…

I was on the subway before the pandemic. It was afternoon, after school. There were 4 high school boys standing together at the door. Two boys were “play-punching” one of the others and laughing. I got the feeling that the boy being punched wasn’t having a good time. The women seated near me seemed to be uncomfortable. The men seated nearby seemed to be amused by this! No one did anything. I left my seat, got up and stood right near the boys, close enough that they stopped hitting the boy. They laughed uncomfortably, and said, “hi” to me. I said “hi.” I got the sense that they wouldn’t hurt me, and indeed, they didn’t.
