PUBLIC HARASSMENT: I WAS ENTERING A BAR…

I was entering a bar with a group of friends. I was the only woman and person of colour in the group. As we entered another group was leaving for a smoke break. One of the smokers advanced his face in mine and started yelling nonsensical Chinese gibberish to me. He walked away and laughed. I stood in shock while the people who accompanied me said nothing. Notably, I was accompanied by my husband, who is not of a person of colour. Later on, the man who harassed me entered the bar where I made eye contact with him, shaking my head. He came over to our table where he said “he was not a racist”. I shook my head and said, yes he was, and that it was not OK to approach me. He tried to apologize saying he was drunk, and responded that it was not an excuse. Meanwhile everyone in my group stayed silent until the man left.
