PUBLIC HARASSMENT: I WAS WAITING FOR A BUS…

I was waiting for a bus in downtown San José, Costa Rica. A guy walked by and told me “I am delicious and he would like to lick all of me.” Without even thinking, I said “disgusting”. He was almost past me, and went back and grabbed me by the shoulder asking “What!”, as if I owed him something or had to reciprocate in some way. I jumped back and yelled to the top of my lungs “What’s wrong with you don’t touch me”. Luckily, some people were nearby and stared at the situation, and I think that made the guy leave. But if I had been alone I don’t know what might have happened. I ended up walking away because I was afraid to remain there. The worst part is that while I was walking, I kept thinking that I shouldn’t have said anything, as if I was the one doing the harassment. I then realized I hadn’t done anything wrong. It wasn’t my fault for talking back. That guy shouldn’t be harassing girls in the street.
