Street Harassment: This was a long…

This was a long time ago but it felt scary. While I was walking home during the day one summer, a guy in a convertible started following me. He even turned the car around several times to do so.
There was no safe place to duck into and I was getting more and more frightened. Finally, I started shouting/singing at the top of my lungs, “Jingle Bells.” It had the desired result: he took off! I think he thought, “Oh my God, she’s loud and she’s crazy!” and so decided not to mess with me. I felt powerful, creative, in charge, and able to get home safely. I think sometimes just being loud can scare people off, but if that doesn’t work, acting strangely could work. Trust your gut!
