HOLLA ON THE GO: I’m 21 years old…

Hello, dear readers!
I’m 21 years old. I was born in a small town in Bulgaria. When I graduated from high-school 3 years ago, I moved to another city to continue my education. The thing is, there’s a big difference between the citizens of these two cities. In my hometown, people are uneducated, hostile and self-centered. Women are seen as a “piece of meat”, as something you have the full rights on and can do anything you want with. Women, on the other hand, seem to either not recognize that or be used to it and they don’t even try to make a difference. Every time I get back home, I see things have gotten worse.
So, earlier today, I was walking to the bus stop when a bunch of men sitting in front of an eating-house whistled at me. At first, I ignored them, but then they catcalled me again, even louder, and I couldn’t resist but ask if they had any kind of manners. They were somehow shocked by my response and couldn’t say anything at all. Then I walked away. I thought I was going to forget about what happened in no time and that it wasn’t such a big deal but that wasn’t the case this time. I felt miserable and I still do. I thought to myself “Why did this happen? I haven’t done anything to attract their attention, nor am I wearing anything too revealing (not that this should be an issue). Why do these men think they have the right to act this way? They somehow ruin my self-confidence!”. As I’m writing this I still wonder why do women have to go through this on the regular. I’ve seriously had enough. This isn’t happening to me for the first time, but it’s the first time I have ever had the courage to respond. To all the women out there I wish to say: Dear beautiful creatures, do not let anyone tell you that you are anything less that the others. Do not let them treat you like you’re no one. Know your self-worth. Love yourself. You’re beautiful. Smart. Extraordinary. Capable of everything you can imagine. You’re a true Goddess. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. We, as women, should stay together and support each other. Please, if you ever witness a situation where a woman is being harassed in any way, do everything you can to help her and make her feel better. Let us make a difference. Let our voices be heard! ❤️
