A WEEK IN OUR SHOES: MAKING HOLLABACK! MOVES!

from Hollaback! HQ

Hollaback! HQ would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year! and take this time to reflect on 2018 with you. From co-hosting the “NYC Stands with Survivors” rally at City Hall in New York City to introducing our Bystander Intervention to corporate workplaces, we have grown so much; but we still have so much growth to go. Although we did not make 2018 resolutions, we made promises! Promises to you that our goal to make spaces safer to be who YOU are will only continue to get stronger, louder and prouder. Everyday is an opportunity to end harassment, and we will not take this opportunity for granted.

Heartmob

HeartMob in 2018? Also pretty awesome! HeartMob and Hollaback! partnered with Monica Lewinsky for her #DefyTheName anti-bullying campaign. The campaign focuses on name-calling and the damaging effects. Thanks to our successful social mediahm share your story campaign in spreading awareness on Twitter, we were presented with the #AdsForGood award. This campaign has provided a phenomenal platform to raise awareness on bullying. Many people, especially activists, politicians, and celebrities, have been humiliated online via memes, gifs, blogs and hashtags. This campaign encourages people to critically assess the dynamics of online social interaction and create awareness on how it can negatively affect an individual’s life. The campaign also teaches us that everyone can lend their voice to the discussion of international progress. Through social media, victims of cyberbullying no longer have to suffer alone: now, there are support groups which speak out, denouncing hate and promoting healthy, positive vibes.

around the world

As we continue to take our #HollabActivism worldwide, we’d like to give a huge shout out to our Hollaback! Jakarta team for their amazing work in 2018. They were a part of Screen Shot 2019-01-14 at 12.26.15 PMthe Women’s March in Jakarta, Indonesia. Though small in numbers, the effort of the team was felt widely and made a powerful impact on the proceeds of the march. They stood in unity supporting #MeToo to help fight against sexual violence as well as harassment.
