Find out what’s going on with HeartMob with December’s issue of The HeartMob Beat!
This week we launched #TeachMeTuesday! Every Tuesday, check out our social media accounts for tips about how to stay safe online and find directions to some HeartMob resources that can help you deal with or avoid online harassment. You can share these new tips by reposting or retweeting them, or talking to your friends and coworkers about what you’ve learned!
Getting the Word Out
Have you ever seen someone being harassed online but felt unsure of how to offer immediate help? If so, we’ve got you covered. Check out these sample messages you can send to a family member, friend or follower who may be a target of online harassment. Plus, at under 140 characters these can easily be tweeted to them!
For more tips on how to reach out when someone is trolled online, check out our blogpost here.
A few weeks ago we were joined by some awesome voices for#WeWontLeave, a Twitter chat about how to resist online harassment in this new political climate. Leading thinkers, activists and organizers such as Cynthia Lowen, Feminista Jones and Take Back the Tech logged in and chatted about what online harassment looks like in their communities and their recommendations for combatting it. Check out some of our chat highlights on our Storify here. Also, be sure to follow us on Twitter at @theheartmob!
In addition to our own Twitter Chat, we took part in Al Jazeera’s twitter roundtable about women who have faced online harassment and the resources and safe spaces that are available to support them.cyberbullying. If you’re interested in reading the conversation, check out the hashtag #AJCyberRights. Special thanks to Al Jazeera English’s show The Stream for inviting us into this important discussion!
Finally, the whole HeartMob team wants to thank you for all of your support this year. In wishing you a happy holiday season, we also ask that you give the gift of love and support for folks being targeted by online harassment. During a free moment please leave a supportive comment on iheartmob.org.
With love and kindness,
